UPDATE JUNE 29 – VLAD IS QRT AND NOW HOME

So, looks like a bootleg appeared very early this morning (EU time) on 20m CW. Some stations reported working TN0VB in Congo. We all know how Vlad likes to travel and turn up in another rare country, but looks like TN0VB was a joker.

 Anyway, he’s now in Uganda signing 5X1VB, another fairly rare entity. I’d hazard a guess he’ll be there for two weeks as each of his other operations have been within that timeframe..

 Good luck working him..and remember, TN0VB does not exist..

Footnote: RV4CB mentions Vlad will be in 7Q7 (Malawi) next week.(??)

UPDATE 21 JUNE @ 1430z…looks like a bootleg….according to DX cluster, 5X1VB is now QRV.

Amazing! After being in Rwanda , Vlad, UA4WHX is now QRV  early this morning (June 21) from The Congo. Initial reports mention weak signals coming out of TN, but he’s being worked. However, Vlad was only QRV for 30 mins between 0517z to 0545z, 20m CW.

Two weeks in 9X, two weeks in 9U – so maybe two weeks in TN? Then…where next?

Anyone know yet what antenna he uses? It seems to do a remarkable job wherever he goes..

Ok, it’s not strictly ham radio related, but the rare IOTA [ EU059] will be given a live worldwide showing through a BBC webcast depicting life on St.Kilda, opera style.

It looks like a fantastic piece of work. Bookmark your calendar for June 22 when the live webcast will be shown across the globe.

St Kilda, ‘the island on the edge of the world’ is to be celebrated across Europe in a spectacular theatrical production taking place on June 22 and 23.
St Kilda – A European Opera, will be performed simultaneously in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and Scotland with elements of the show transmitted by live satellite link from St Kilda.

Reading an old edition of OPDX I noticed this below:

1. Not a single amateur radio license has ever been issued in Yemen
  in the past 20 years. He mentions, ‘For those interested in the
  authenticy of the fact I can probably provide a written statement
  of the ministry confirming the fact.’

2. Amateur radio has never been legalized in Yemen. ‘PERIOD’
  No legal base, no exceptions so far, but the ministry is sincerely
  interested in promoting the hobby. They know about it and do plan
  to pass laws for it as soon as possible.

3. When King Hussein of Jordan was in Yemen, he requested a license
  which he did not get….

4. The ministry has tried to authorize amateur radio activity in Yemen
  a few times, but the attempts have always got stuck at the Ministry
  of Interior offices being higher or lower.

That was almost two years ago.

In searching the internet for Yemeni Ministries, I found a whole host  of relevant links. On clicking the links (every one of them) “site under construction” is evident. Under construction since 2002…
